Louis Vuitton debuted its first ever television advertisement earlier this week. Directed by Inez and Vinood, the video takes place in Paris, with scenes inside of Paris’ historically famous museum: The Louvre.

Louis Vuitton’s description of the video:

“Paris and its mysteries… For centuries, the most wonderful intrigues have been woven in the Louvre, a haven of culture and history. An intrepid young woman enters this universal temple and unwinds the skein of time. After an encounter with the Mona Lisa and the Italian masters, armed with a key, she releases the secrets — also desired by a man hot on her heels — enclosed for more than 150 years in a legendary trunk created by Louis Vuitton.

     Like a thread stretching across time and space, a hot-air balloon rises above the Cour Carrée. The beautiful unknown woman leaves the Louvre for a far-off destination in pursuit of her destiny.”

Yesterday, I experienced my first snowy day in New York City, which inadvertently forced me to come to the realization that I have absolutely nothing to wear in my closet to survive the upcoming winter. Growing up in California, the biggest weather change I’ve ever experienced was when I moved to Oregon, aka “The Rainy State,” to get my B.A.

At first, dressing for snow yesterday was fun. I wore my cheetah print Stuart Weitzman rainboots, my Nanette Lepore thick oversized beanie and my warmest pea coat, staple items in my closet that I had rarely worn. Yet, midway through the day, I realized my outfit was a mediocre attempt of winter-wear.

As I walked home, facing the 32* and snowy, windy and snowy, wet and snowy weather, my freezing head angrily compiled a list of winter items I would need to purchase to survive the upcoming winter (I mean, I barely made it through the first snow fall in November).

It’s that time of year — holiday season! Don’t wait until the last minute to do your holiday shopping — so in attempt to avoid the inevitable (I always, somehow, end up at a mall on December 22nd…) – here’s a quick guide to help jump start the retail holiday season!

1. Chanel Sunglasses – Just because it’s winter when you give the gift to her, why not give her an accessory she can use all year long? These new Chanel sunglasses are the perfect way to get her excited for spring (or maybe a holiday trip to the Caribbean?)

2. Kate Spade Cross Body iPad Case: I always love a cross body bag, but one that can also function as my new iPad case? What could be better. This bag is fun, flirtatious and perfect for a night out, or a sparkly transportation piece for our beloved iPad.

3. Marc by Marc Jacobs Watch:  There is never such a thing as having too many watches. Typically girls have white, gold, tortoise shell or rose-gold watches, but why not expand into black? This watch is chic and girly, and the perfect staple item to add to any female wardrobe.

4. Vince Camuto Stud Earrings or Givenchy Kalahari 10mm Pearl Stud Earrings: Earrings are always a good choice, basic studs that she can wear daily are even better. What’s important is the matter or taste/style you choose. Although both of these earrings are pretty safe choices, if she has a more classic style, pearls or basic studs are a good option. If she’s edgy or trendy, or basically likes to experiment or change her style a lot, I would recommend the Vince Camuto Stud Earrings.

5. Dogeared Necklace: A great collection of basic necklaces with meaning. My favorite is the Karma design, but there are many to choose from – pick a style that represents exactly what you want to share with the gift-receiver.

6. Prada Wallet: Get her a basic she’ll love forever. If she prefers color, a Tory Burch wallet is the perfect alternative (they can be found in a multitude of colors).

I felt it was necessary to avoid the dreary winter assessment before it happened by finding inspiring new hair & make up ideas to carry you through the upcoming season! So, here’s my official goodbye to beach waves, and hello to polished winter chic!

HAIR:

Last winter the “Fashion Bun” was very much in trend, last past summer led us to stylish braids. My theory is to keep both of these simple hair style options for winter and try different variations of the two combined!

LIPSTICK:

I truly believe that a fun-colored lipstick is the perfect way to accentuate (or mask) a lighter skin tone during winter, and during the holiday season, why not sport the color red? If you find it hard to incorporate or match into your wardrobe,  just purchase a coffee drink from Starbucks with their holiday cup and you’re good to go!

EYELINER

My theory is the thicker the eyeliner, the better. Now, I don’t believe in caking your skin with foundation or desperately adding pounds of bronzer for a last minute self-tanner effect each morning, but, I do believe that the best way to add life to your face is through your eyes. Accentuate your eyelashes for a mesmerizing affect. For some holiday spirit, get creative and add some sparkly gold, or fun eyeliner color.

NAILS

Embrace the trend of dark nail hues. Bordeaux, navy, deep bronze and shimmery grey.

MTV strategically came back with House of Style (a remake of its original from the 80′s/90s) by featuring two of the top models in the fashion industry, Karlie Kloss (@KarlieKloss) & Joan Smalls (@JoanSmalls) as hosts. Not only are these two a fun, dynamic duo to watch, but each episode gives a lot of insight into different parts of the fashion industry.

I learned about this series a while ago, but just recently had time to finally watch the series. After watching the intro episode of Kloss & Smalls covering Paris Fashion Week (with interviews and backstage footage at Stella McCartney & John Paul Gaultier) I became immediately hooked. So, if you’re still iffy about allotting your time to this series, here are 5 reasons to check out House of Style.

1. Gain insight about the fashion industry with backstage access and exclusive interviews.

For example: the first episode covers Paris Fashion Week from a model and reporter’s perspective. For anybody wanting to work in the fashion industry, this is valuable videography!

2. Learn about different areas of the fashion industry, like costuming or photography.

In one episode, they feature the how-to process of creating a new image with motion – used for their own House of Style Ad Campaign. The image combines movement with still life to create a new kind of photography set. It’s cool to learn how this new process is technically done, as well as see what goes on behind the lens during fashion shoots.

3. Get some retail therapy.

The girls go shopping in the world-renowned Colette Paris Store… and you can pretend you’re shopping with them.

4. Match Personalities to Faces & Names.

You can only read Vogue & Women’s Wear Daily so much to learn who’s who in the fashion industry. House of Style allows you to watch current fashion elites like Alexander Wang, Anna Dello Russo and Cara Delevingne and see more than just a posed photo or written article.

5. It’s always nice to be reassured that models are more than just pretty faces.

Aside from being international top models, Kloss & Smalls are both genuinely goofy, personable and entertaining ladies, and watching them interact with other fashion-elites is just as interesting!  The perfect example where they describe their reaction to being offered the hosting gig for House of Style.

FABULOUS HALLOWEEN COSTUMES

1. Lauren Conrad as Mary Poppins

I mean, any costume that you can incorporate a Chanel bag is absolutely brilliant. Dressing up as Mary Poppins is not only original, but so adorable and clever! 2. Hilary Duff and Mike Comrie as Skeletons/Dios De Los Muertos

Sarah Hyland created a costume as Spinelli from Recess, Stacy Keibler dressed us as the Black Swan (that costume will never get old), and Liam Payne (from One Direction) sported a pretty intense batman costume.

SPOOKY HALLOWEEN TREATS

If you choose to stay in or go out for halloween, it’s always fun to cook halloween-themed treats. From “Mummies” to “Eyeballs” with some “Worms & Zombie Brains,” and “ghosts” for dessert, a fun themed dinner is the perfect way to get into the spirit of halloween! (And if all else fails, you could always just drink
“blood” — wine for adults, cranberry juice for kids.)

SCARY MOVIE?

Another great way to get into the Halloween spirit (and equally freak yourself out) is to watch a halloween classic movie like Hocus Pocus, or a scary one — Paranormal Activity 4, anyone? If you know you won’t be able to sit through an entire scary movie without having a heart attack, or start crying– Here’s the trailer to watch and then you can call it good.

Hopefully now you feel like you’ve gotten to experience some of the halloween spirit– but, really the best way to celebrate halloween is to wear a costume while watching a scary movie, munching your delicious halloween-inspired snacks (or drinking your blood) and staring at that ah-mazing diamond  Damien Hurst Skull featured on The Coveteur (and in this post’s featured image).
